With new material comes new expertise. In order to push my skills of photography, I tried capturing part of the night skies here in Eastern Africa. I really enjoy watching the stars in general, but here it’s even more beautiful! No light pollution of villages or cities close by. Complete darkness and silence surrounds me, only disturbed by the happy chirping of crickets in the fields as I set up my tripod and camera to do some ‘astrophotography’ (I managed to read into the subject in the evenings before trying a lucky shot into the night sky).
I also tried to capture some of the lightning bolts coming down on earth during some of the many nights of thunder. Playing with exposure time and artificial light also makes it possible to send a visual message that love is in the air, though separated by miles (or kilometres) of land and water, always connected through the air :) (and even outside earth without air the connection will still be there I’m sure). And when there are no stormy clouds, the moon joins the stars and planets to light the nightsky brilliantly even in its smaller crescent shape. I hope you can get an impression of the daily/nightly beauty I experience here.

Hoi Edwin,
Zulke sterrennachten als jij daar hebt, hebben wij natuurlijk niet. Er is altijd wel ergens een beetje lichtvervuiling. Fijn om te lezen dat jij daar zo van kan genieten. Ik heb net genoten van het geven van een schoolconcertje. Samen met een paar collega's verzorgen we een paar korte concertjes voor de groepen 3 en 4 van de basisschool. Aanstaande zaterdagmiddag hebben we in Sint Annaparochie een Speelmiddag met Open Huis. Mama en Susana helpen ook even mee met een workshop schilderen.
Ik hoop dat je een beetje bent opgeknapt zodat je beter in staat bent je werk op te pakken. Geniet ze van de mooie dingen en mensen daar. Ik zie uit naar je volgende verslag met foto's! -

Heb je het naar je zin in Oeganda? Is het wat je verwacht had? Ben je aan het 'werk' of ondertussen al aan het reizen?

Tijdelijk min geweest, nu weer top!
Erg naar mijn zin hier!. Aantal zaken naar verwachting, zoals wachttijd/desorganisatie af en toe/relaxed-heid, andere zaken onverwacht zoals de grootte van het ziekenhuis, dat ik daadwerkelijk mijn planning kan volgen en meer, dat het niet elke dag regent en vooral 's avonds ipv overdag (erg fijn! ) en dat er elke dag erg lekker gekookt wordt voor mij! ;)
Een aantal kleine tripjes gemaakt in het weekend, het echte reizen komt na de stage, kijk ik erg naar uit!! :) -
